When you start off, you have a pretty average team of players, with some exceptional ones. Players are 'measured' by their Skill index, or SI. The higher the SI, the better the player. So, a player with an SI of 20,000+ is usually pretty good, especially if he's less than about 22 years old. This is because players improve in skill faster when they are young. Players usually start losing fitness rapidly when they start ageing 27-30 years old. But if you can manage to give them enough fitness training, they will still perform pretty well. But this itself is a problem, as you can only train on one category every week. So, you might not be able train in Fielding & Wicket keeping, Batting or Bowling if you focus on fitness. More on training will be explained later. But, if you do not like a player because of his inability to perform, then you can either fire him, or sell him. If you ask me, first try to sell the player before firing him, just for that little amount of money you'll get. Hitwicket gives you a recommended selling price, which you can choose not to obey, but I'd recommend you open the player's auction with an asking price of about 50%-100% of the asking price. For example, if the player's skill index is 10,000, the asking price should be about 60% of the recommended price, but if the player has a skill index of about 40,000, ask for a price which is about 110% of the recommended price. (Don't worry, you'll get more than that.) But don't let the asking price go too high above the recommended price, or no one will bid on the player.
There are also various aspects of a player which influence how he plays in various fields (batting/bowling/fielding/wicket keeping):
There are also various aspects of a player which influence how he plays in various fields (batting/bowling/fielding/wicket keeping):
Experience
Experience plays a very important in how a player utilizes his batting/bowling skills. Also, a more experienced captain sets the field smartly, resulting in many runs being saved. Players get experience with every match they play. However, the captain gets 30% more experience. Younger players gain experience more rapidly as compared to older players.
Fitness
The fitness of a player determines how well he can utilize his skills. It plays a greater role on the performance of seam bowlers as compared to spinners or batsmen. With every league match a player plays, he loses some fitness. Also, a player's fitness decreases gradually over the time. This fitness loss is more prevalent in older players.

Form
Form has a significant effect on how well a player performs in a match.Just as in reality, Form increases or decreases randomly every week.A player in bad form has a higher chance of form increase than a player already in good form. A player in good form has a higher chance of form drop than a player already in bad form. All players have a tendency to go into a form slum or high during the course of the season.Consider maintaining squad depth to avoid fielding a player in bad form in a crucial match!

Skill Index (SI)
Skill Index (SI) is basically a unit to measure a players total skills. The higher the levels in Bowling Main/Bowling Variation/Wicket Keeping/Fielding/Batting Vs Seam Bowlers/Batting Vs Spin Bowlers, the more SI the player has. However, each of these factors do not contribute equally to SI. For example, 1 level in Fielding does not contribute to SI as much as Bowling Main does.
With increase in Skill Level of any factor of a player, the SI increases accordingly. For example, if your bowler pops to Exemplary in Bowling Main, his SI will increase much more than it would when it pops to Accomplished.

Salary
Every player is paid a weekly salary every Friday as part of the finance update.Salary is based on all his skills, each skill has a varying effect on salary. For example, 1 level of Fielding contributes a lot less to salary than 1 level of Bowling Main. Similar to SI, the salary of a player with any high level skill will be much more than of a player will multiple low level skills. A player's salary is recomputed on his birthday (once every 70 days), based on his skills (which may have increased due to training or dropped due to old age).
Selling & firing players
If you are fed up of a load of players who are doing nothing except for eating up your salary, and have low skill levels along with being pretty old, then you might want to get rid of such players. It is suggestible not to directly fir anyone having a Skill Index of above 5,000 unless you have tried to sell them at least 2 times. Why two times? Well, the answer is simple-you have a better chance of selling them.
